Zuo yuezi article published in Essence magazine

An article I wrote about planning to undertake zuo yuezi (postpartum confinement) has made it into the November issue of Essence (page 19), a publication produced by the Australian Breastfeeding Association

Essence was essential reading material for me before and after I had my first baby.  After getting over my initial shock of seeing lots of pictures of boobs and babies, I realised how vital much of the information was to new mothers (and fathers).  ‘One day when I am a real writer I might try and write an article for Essence,’ I told myself .  So three years later, I am really delighted to see my first Essence article in print.

About taiwanxifu

‘Taiwanxifu’ (pronounced ‘shee foo’) means ‘Taiwan daughter-in-law’ in Chinese and has been my nickname ever since I married my Taiwanese husband, Sam. I love sampling Taiwanese food, even local specialties such as stinky tofu, pigs blood cake and Taipei beef noodle soup with offal. But there are many other options on the menu. Promise!

Looking forward to reading the article! Although no longer a member, my workplace is because we have Baby Friendly status (a dedicated breastfeeding/expressing rooms for mum’s returning to work) and so my organisation is a member….. It would be good to send in a follow up article about how you ‘survived’ confinement.

Thanks. Will definitely submit a follow-up article about post confinement. And I have another in the pipeline about Breastfeeding in Taiwan. The magazine has a long lead time, but you will read more articles from me eventually.
